Wasp and Hornet Control Services

Have you spotted a gray, ball-like shape hanging under the eaves of your home? Are you hearing buzzing sounds in your walls? Wasps and hornets will often construct nests on the exterior of your home, but sometimes they’ll find their way in through a crack or crevice.

Wasp and Hornet Control Services in the Lakes Region and Central New Hampshire

Yellow Jackets, Bald Faced Hornets, Giant European Hornets, and Cicada Killer Wasps are commonly found in New Hampshire. These stinging pests become more aggressive once we experience the first frost of the season and their food source becomes scarce. Hornets and wasps typically feed on caterpillars, sawflies, honeydew, fruit, and garbage.

To reduce the risk of wasps and hornets around your home, here are some measures you can take:

  • Regularly inspect the outside of your home for evidence of wasps or hornets.

  • Check for holes or gaps in your siding and make sure they’re filled.

  • Ensure your property is free from trash and decomposing materials.

If your DIY or prevention measures are not keeping wasps and hornets from invading your home, contact Winni Pest Solutions for a free pest inspection. We serve clients throughout Belknap, Carroll, Grafton, and parts of Coos county.

Common Wasps and Hornets Found in New Hampshire

  • Bald Faced Hornets prefer to nest on eaves of buildings or branches protected by the rain.

  • Yellow Jackets prefer to nest underground or in a wall of a building.

  • Giant European Hornets nest in rotting trees.

  • Cicada Killer Wasps grow up to 1.3 inches and are known as “digger wasps” as they burrow into the ground. They are called the “killer wasp” because they hunt down adult Cicadas, sting (paralyze) them, and save it for food for their larva.

  • Brown Paper Wasps are less aggressive and make paper nests in attics and under eaves of buildings. These wasps chew weathered wood and mix with their saliva to make paper and form their nest.

  • Carpenter Bees are wood-destroying insects, but are not aggressive toward humans. They can chew half-inch holes in softwood on homes, such as white pine or redwood. To reduce the chance of carpenter bees burrowing into your home you can paint or varnish any exposed wood.

  • Mud Wasps often nest on the outside of homes in a protected area. They are not aggressive, but they can create a mess on the exterior of your home.
